Special prayers to mark Navroz celebrationsAs Navroz is being celebrated today, greetings are pouring in on the festive eve.Navroz marks the beginning of the New Year of the Persian calendar and is celebrated with fervour by the Shiite community in the Kashmir valley. In a joint statement, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah greeted the people of the state.
“I pray the coming year ushers the state into a phase of stability, development and inclusive growth and brings peace and happiness into our homes and lives. This is also an occasion to pledge to uphold the pluralistic values and ethos of our nation where equality and amity are the pillars of our strength as a people,” Farooq Abdullah said in his message.
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president GA Mir extended hearty greetings to people and wished them happy and prosperous Navroz. He hoped that the auspicious occasion would be the harbinger of overall development of the state and prosperity of the people.
“Special occasions (festivals) in our country, particularly in J&K state, reflects the manifestation of our multicultural identity, age old ethos of communal harmony, togetherness and brotherhood,” he added.
BJP state president Sat Sharma also greeted people. He said the ancient New Year is celebrated as the Iranian New Year and marked the beginning of spring.
Sharma in his message said: “The day symbolises rejuvenation and renaissance and signifies a time of spiritual revitalisation and physical rejuvenation. The festival also signifies to humanity the spirit of gratefulness for blessings and the stance of hope and optimism towards the future.”
